Consider this case: A woman sent her teenage daughter to buy something accross the road. Suddenly she heard a shout and people running in a direction. A vehicle has just knocked down the girl crushing her badly. The mother agitated by that unusual noise hastened towards the door. A male neighbour who knew what just happened to her daughter accosted her at the door. She asked anxiously what the noise was about. He calmed her down saying: "Its an okada that fell down. Its not about you." But just before he finished a woman rushed in and shouted : "It concerns you o.. the head of your daughter had just been smashed to pieces by a car ..."
Obviously, the mother of
the ill-fated girl fell flat, fainted and later found to have suffered
brain injury. She was paralysed, never the same again.
The husband sued the woman for breaking such bad news carelessly. The family was awarded damages.
